Beth, Jill & Elias
Family Through Adoption
Elias practices being a big brother with our friend, A.J.
When we began to seriously consider expanding our family to include children, adoption emerged as the right choice for us. Beth was adopted as an infant and truly understands the unique experience of being raised in a family created through adoption. It’s great to know that our children will have someone to relate to about this significant piece of identity.

In becoming parents, we also knew the importance to us of engaging in open adoption. Before Elias was born, we were lucky enough to meet his birthmother, Jesse, and we had the chance to meet his birthfather, Jason, at the birth. This allowed us all to begin the conversation about what openness meant to each of us. It’s hard to believe that nearly two years have passed since then. In addition to having a son we now treasure, we have also gained an extended family through his adoption. We have an open relationship with Jesse and keep in touch with her on a regular basis (not to mention her mother and grandmother). We also maintain contact with Jason’s father and grandmother. We feel fortunate to have these connections for Elias and hope that our next child will have the opportunity to know you and look forward to developing a relationship that is comfortable and rewarding for all of us.
