BOSTON – Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps is expanding its mission to include adoption by adding Bright Futures Adoption Center to the programs it offers across the state, effective today (Dec. 9).
Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps is a leader in child welfare, advocacy, and juvenile justice in Massachusetts. It provides therapeutic rehabilitation and education for children and youth through its community-based and residential programs in Massachusetts.
Bright Futures is an established adoption agency known for its ethical, compassionate work with children and families and its special focus on providing adoption services for children and families of color. Bright Futures is committed to helping women of all races make thoughtful, appropriate decisions about their child’s future and has successfully created more than 100 families through open adoption.
As part of Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps, Bright Futures will continue its infant adoption program and expand to support youth foster care and older child adoption through the resources of RFK Children’s Action Corps. This collaboration will create a dynamic change in RFK Children’s Action Corps’ ability to serve children of all ages and will allow for increased post-adoption programming to provide ongoing support for children and families.
“With the addition of Bright Futures to our team we will be able to serve the youngest children through young adults,” says Ed Kelley, president and CEO of RFK Children’s Action Corps. “Bright Futures will bring their expertise to help us provide safe, loving and permanent homes for all our youth.”
Founded in 1969, the Robert F. Kennedy Children Action Corps was developed as a living legacy to the late Senator who believed that society has a responsibility to all of its members, and that lasting contributions are first made by improving the lives of children and their families. All of the agency’s work is done with this philosophy in mind.
“RFK Children’s Action Corps was appealing to us because we share core values,” said Karen Cheyney co-founder and director of Bright Futures. “We believe in a child-centered approach to adoption and are thrilled to have the opportunity to enhance our infant adoption program under a successful organization like RFK Children’s Action Corps, while creating a continuum of care for the RFK kids who can benefit from foster care and adoption services.”
