Adoption and Permanency Program
The Adoption and Permanency Program works to create permanence for children and sibling groups of all races, birth to age 18, currently in the custody of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (“DCF”).
Our children usually have been involuntarily removed from their parents or other caregivers. They have often experienced neglect, trauma of various sorts, and loss. These children have a wide range of medical, behavioral, cognitive, psychological and emotional needs and need families that will love them unconditionally and encourage and support them to reach their full potential.
At Bright Futures, we believe that every adoption should:
- Focus on the best interests of the child,
- begin with a thorough understanding of the child’s needs and strengths,
- provide the child and adoptive parents with an opportunity to get to know and respect one another prior to placement,
- maintain family connections that are important to the child’s well being and are safe for the child,
- provide the child with access to ongoing information about his/her birth family,
- begin with the knowledge that adoption is a lifelong process, and
- be honest and respectful of each participant’s expectations for the placement.
